Copa del Rey roundup: Valencia hit four as La Liga sides avoid upsets

Valencia scored four against Yeclano in the Copa Del Rey on Thursday to move into the next round of the competition.

Valencia had only won a single game in their last 13 La Liga games and are currently in the La Liga relegation battle.

However, any fears of an upset were put to rest as Kang-In Lee, Uros Racic and Ruben Sobrino all scored first-half goals.

Alberto Oca scored immediately after the restart to pull a goal back for Yeclano, but Thierry Correia netted the fourth goal for the La Liga seven minutes later to finish the game 4-1.

Elsewhere, Cadiz needed penalties to defeat third-tier Pontevedra after a 0-0 draw while Pena Dep. Santa Eulalia also knocked out Sabadell with a penalty shootout after a stalemate.

Girona beat fellow Segunda outfit Lugo 2-1 in extra time with Sporting Gijon defeating SD Amorebieta 1-0.

Meanwhile, fellow La Liga side Eibar also gets a victory in their own Copa Del Rey to match Las Rosas while Alcoyano beat Huesca.

On Wednesday La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid was defeated 1-0 to be knocked out of the cup of the competition by Cornella.

Meanwhile attention returns to the La Liga for the weekend as teams continue to play for the league title with Atletico Madrid top of the La Liga.
