Coronavirus: Borussia Monchengladbach players to let go of wages due to virus outbreak

The players of Borussia Monchengladbach have decided to forgo their wages to support thousands who lose their jobs due to the pandemic virus

The German Bundesliga and its second division have been suspended until the 2nd of April, and so are other leagues across Europe.

The club managing director Stephan Schippers revealed that the players are fully aware of the situation, and they have already informed themselves about it.

The German FA on Wednesday revealed that the National team is prepared to donate €2.5m to help combat the coronavirus issue in the country.

According to a news outlet in Germany, the players of Borussia Monchengladbach are the first among many professional Clubs in Germany to offer voluntarily part of their wages with head coach Marco Rose and club directors taking the same action.

Schippers added that ” the team has decided to let go voluntarily part of their wages to help the club and the employees.”

“The ultimate goal is to help the club survive the pandemic crisis and to avoid giving out notice of termination. And to achieve this, all hands must be on deck; also, we cannot fail to acknowledge that affected companies will take this same measure throughout Germany, which includes the use of short-term work”.

The footballing industry in Germany has seen a workforce of over 56,000 people.

With the outbreak of the pandemic virus broadcast, sponsorship and ticketing money have been affected.

It remains to be seen if things will get back to normal after the deadline of April 2nd as everywhere continues lockdown.
