Galliani reveals why AC Milan sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva

Former Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has revealed why the club sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva in 2012.

Milan initially got the Swede who had a stint earlier with Inter Milan from Barcelona before signing him permanently for €24m.

After four years at the club, Ibrahimovic was eventually sold to PSG for €21.00m.

Ibrahimovic left the club at the same time alongside Thiago Silva. The Paris club paid €42m for the Brazilian, who eventually spent eight years before moving to Chelsea last summer.

According to Galliani, the pair won’t have left the clubs if Milan had won the Serie A title that season.

He said the club lost the title to Juventus due to Sulley Muntari disallowed goal against the Old Lady. As there was no goal-line technology at that time, the ball crossed the line, but the referee and his assistant failed to spot it.

He further stated that the goal would have changed the history, and the Milan club would have won the title.

Speaking with Libero, Galliani, who described Silva and Ibrahimovic as two Champions that are still playing at the highest level, said they may have still remained Milan players if things had gone differently.

Ibrahimovic secured a return to the San Siro club last January, and he has been an important player for the club. He currently tops the Serie A goal chart with ten goals in nine games.

He further revealed that Milan would have added former Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez to the squad if they had won the title. The Argentine instead signed for Juventus. He believed that Milan would have won three Serie A titles in a row with Tevez.

He also regretted that they lost the 2005 Champions League final to Liverpool despite going three goals up in the first half.

The former Milan director described the game as incredible, adding that they would have put the game to bed if Andriy Shevchenko’s goal was allowed to stand. He said the goal was disallowed for an inexistent offside.
