Portuguese Primeira Liga to kick off May 30th as players resume training

It seems happy days are here again in football as clubs are currently managing to contain the pandemic spread, which has halted football activities across the globe.

The latest European clubs to make a return to training in Portugal are Porto and Benfica, with the league set to resume action on the 30th of May.

An announcement was made last week Thursday by the Portuguese Prime Minister,  Antonio Costa, that football activities in the country can resume by the end of the month latest, which must be approved by the Ministry of Health.

The Primeira Liga was abandoned on the 12th of March with Porto leading the proceedings on the log, a point ahead of rivals and defending champions, Benfica making it an exciting two-horse race for the league title.

A popular figure in the Porto’s defense and ex-Real Madrid defender Pepe was seen arriving the training ground as Benfica coach was all smiles as he waved to a few football fans cheering him on at the club’s training base.

With ten games left to wrap up the league, the Portuguese league could be one of many leagues across Europe to resume football action as Germany, Poland, and Sweden are all considering a return to kickoff their respective leagues.

However, leagues in Holland, France, and Belgium have concluded on ending their top. Flight leagues as Paris St. Germain and Club Brugge in Belgium are ready to get their league titles as Ajax missed on the chance to become Eredivisie champions despite sitting top of the log on goal difference.

Players of several clubs in Germany have begun their training for close to a month as they are conducting a thorough and regular test on their staff and players.
