Sparks Guard Sydney Wiese Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Los Angeles Sparks third-year guard Sydney Wiese has tested positive for COVID-19. She is the first WNBA player with the coronavirus.

The Sparks made the announcement through an official statement and Kurt Helin of NBC Sports reported it:

“Los Angeles Sparks guard Sydney Wiese tested positive for the coronavirus after returning from playing overseas in Spain. Her symptoms are mild and she’s in positive spirits and feeling fine. She’s been in self-isolation at home in Phoenix since her return and is encouraging everyone to practice social distancing to help prevent the spread of the virus. The Sparks are in direct communication with Sydney and wish her a speedy recovery.”

Wiese played in Spain during the winter, so she might have contracted the disease while overseas but is hard to tell. COVID-19 spread like wildfire in the US as well, so she may have gotten infected when she came back. That’s secondary right now, what matters is that she can feel better soon.

The 24-year-old is reportedly doing good right now and she should pull through this and come out victorious against the coronavirus. Prayers up for her having a full recovery just like Utah Jazz stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell did. Donovan Mitchell tweeted the following recently:

“On a more serious note… let’s continue to practice social distancing and remember… even though you may not have symptoms you still may be infected!! Let’s keep everyone in our prayers and stay safe.”
