Montpellier’s Hilton keeping fit in coronavirus lockdown

Montpellier defender, Vitorino Hilton, is not ready to take any chance in losing his match fitness as sportsmen remained confined to their respective homes due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The 42-year-old Brazilian who has played almost all the minutes of Montpellier’s 28 league games this season before the lockdown order is not ready to slow down this season.

The evergreen Brazilian, who had stints with RC Lens and Olympique de Marseille, is putting a lot of energy into his home workouts in order to be in shape.

Speaking with RMC, the defender, who noted that it’s not easy to stay at home doing nothing, revealed that he is involved in sporting activities nearly the whole day to pass the time. He added that he needed to do this to stay in shape, but it’s not easy.

According to him, he would run in the morning because he has a treadmill at home while he does gym work in the afternoon. It also involves abdominals and strength training. The later part of the day is for his family to watch the news, which is followed by a film or series.

This, according to him, is a training schedule set out by Montpellier’s conditioning coach in order for the players to maintain the fitness required to be able to start playing again as soon as the football federation gets the all-clear from the authorities.

While noting that the most important thing at the moment is to stay at home and follow experts’ advice, he said sportsmen have to stay in shape in order not to be game rusty when the league resumes.

He added that if it’s staying home longer than usual, that will solve the pandemic challenges, he said that is the best solution as health takes priority over the game.

He further revealed that the rest affords him the time to think about his future. His current deal expires at the end of the current campaign.

Having stayed fit throughout the season, Hilton remains hopeful that he would get another deal because he wants to play for one more season provided the club accepts.

This he said would be discussed by both parties at the end of the season, when he would see if they are on the same path.
