Godin reveals what Inter will do to neutralize Shakhtar Donetsk

Inter Milan defender, Diego Godin, said he and his team had studied their opponent in the semi-final of the Europa League, Shakhtar Donetsk carefully.

Both sides will lock horns tonight in Dusseldorf at 20:00 UK time.

Inter is going into the game following a 2-1 win over Bayern Leverkusen. The Serie A runner-sup went two goals up within 21 minutes through Nicolo Barela and Romelu Lukaku. Kai Havertz reduced the deficit for the Bundesliga side.

Inter got the chance to score more but were stopped by VAR after being awarded two penalties by the center referee.

According to the Uruguayan, all they need to win the game ahead is to press their opponents and annihilate their passing circuits.

Speaking with Sport Mediaset, the center back, who has watched a lot of videos, which includes that of their quarter-final win over Basel said they like playing and keeping the ball and push the full-backs forward.

While noting that the Ukrainians have a lot of quality players, he said Inter has to press them and cut shut their pass supply. If they succeed in doing this, Godin said it is then Inter can hurt them with their football counter-attacking football style.

Inter will be banking on Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 30 goals this season, and his fellow talisman, Lautaro Martinez, who could be too handy for the Shakhtar Donetsk defenders.

Godin, who has been a regular starter in the competition for the Nerazzurri, has struggled for playing time in his debut Serie A season. He said this was a challenge for him to understand what Antonio Conte wanted as it’s different from how he played and moved for 15-20 years.

He said that he has, therefore, learned a lot from the former Juventus boss. The learning he said has changed mentally and physically.

While noting that it wasn’t easy, Godin said he now understood what Conte wants from him.
